Wireless Amber Alerts in action

Submitted by Jason Meserve on Tue, 05/01/2007 - 10:02am.

I've written and talked about the Wireless Amber Alerts service before, but now I've seen it in action. Last night, Massachusetts State Police issued an Amber Alert for a missing 12-year-old boy and since one or both of the Zip Codes I subscribed (for lack of a better word) to fell in the alert area, I got a text message at 10:21 PM describing the child, who he was potentially with and the vehicle they may be traveling in. After the boy was found (thankfully), the system sent out a cancellation message at midnight.

Needless to say, everyone should sign-up for this. It's completely free, even if you don't have a text messaging plan as part of your wireless service.

Great post. I actually learned about this service a few days ago while watching The View, and also posted about it on my blog, Nifty Nation.

Thanks for sharing!
